IS A DOER WHO LIKES TO BE.

New to yoga?

If you have never been to a yoga class before or never found the 'right' teacher, I thought I'd run through some common issues.

1, Relax - I know it can be daunting going to a class with people you don't know and practising something unfamiliar. It took me 10 years to move from talking about yoga to actually doing it! All my classes are friendly and you will be most welcome.

2, Be prepared - Don't eat for 2 hours before the class starts. Wear loose comfortable clothing. Mats are provided but you are also welcome to bring your own. It's also good to bring a soft cushion and a blanket although this is not essential. If you need to buy anything have a look at Yogamatters - they have a great range of yoga stuff at good prices.

3, Let me know - If you have any physical, mental or emotional issues, please discuss them in confidence with me before the class - in person, by email or phone. Pregnant women are welcome to attend the beginners class in Bradford on Avon on Thursdays at 6.30 pm.

4, Be open - Yoga works in mysterious ways. As well as the physical benefits of increased strength and flexibility, there is also a warm inner feeling of wellbeing. Sometimes there can be emotional releases, so don't  feel weird if you feel a range of emotions during and after the class. Remember you can always discuss this with me if it concerns you.

5, Not sure about the spiritual stuff? - I teach yoga in a modern way but pay hommage to the ancestry of my teachings. The sanskrit prayer at the end of the class is my way of doing this. You can join in if you want but equally you can just breathe. Yoga can be part of a spiritual practice either aligned to an existing religious system or not. At the same time it can just be a great way of feeling good!

4, Share - Let me know what you like and what you don't like about the class. Same goes for this blog. Comment freely. And don't forget to recommend me to your friends. I survive on the support of my students!

Affirmations anyone?
