Seeds To Go

Finding healthy tasty snacks that all the family like is no small feat. One idea is to supplement what you eat with tasty, healthy stuff like seeds.

Here are my top 3 seedy add-ons:-

1, Gomashio – Sesame Seed and Salt Condiment from Japan

1 tablespoon sea salt 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons of raw sesame seeds Heat a medium-sized pan on a medium flame. Add the sesame seeds. Toast gently, turning frequently. You will hear some popping when they are nearly ready. Then grind the salt and sesame seeds together in a pestle and mortar. Store in an airtight container at room temperature and use as a salt replacement or topping for vegetables.

2, Breakfast topping

To make an easy topping for cereal, museli or porridge to as an additive to a breakfast smoothie just grind up the following in a blender:-

A small handful each of walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

You can buy handy bags from your health food shop if this seems like hard work (it isn't by the way).

3, Seedy snack

Dry fry a mixture of pumpkin and sunflower seeds in a pan with no oil. Keep turning until they are popping and getting toasty. Then sprinkle with tamari sauce. Take the pan off the heat and allow to cool with the tamari leaving a caramalised coating. (Soy sauce also works but has more salt and gluten.) Leave out in your favourite little bowl and watch them go.
